We have introduced maintenance Mondays at the course this year.  This is a practice where tee times are delayed until 10:30 on specific Mondays so that the maintenance crew can conduct vital cultural practices on the turf.   The key reasons for delaying tee times include:

  • Routine maintenance and larger projects can be completed efficiently, which allows the maintenance staff to deliver the best possible conditions.
  • Employees can perform tasks faster when they don’t need to stop or move to a different hole to avoid play.
  • It’s best to perform maintenance practices like venting and topdressing when there are no golfers because they can be disruptive and potentially dangerous to perform during play.
  • With a break in play, the maintenance team can complete disruptive tasks quickly and have things cleaned up before play resumes.

Verticutting
The thinning of turf by blades which cut perpendicular to the soil surface. Specifically designed to remove mat, thatch, and grain from putting greens; to thin dense turf.

Deep Tyne Mini Venting
The process of injecting small metal tynes approximately 6-8 inches into the soil to improve water and air movement in the soil.  It takes approximately 30 minutes to completely aerify a green.

Top Dressing
A layer of sand is applied to the surface of the putting green and then brushed into the canopy.  The sand layer helps to level and smooth the green and is an aid to control thatch build up.

Wiping off dew from the greens
Wiping dew from the course helps improve ball roll, prevents turf disease, and protects the grass from damage. It also makes mowing and maintenance more effective.
